About the artwork
You know we love travel posters with our whole hearts, but did you know that the poster hunter also keeps other treasures, such as propaganda posters, in his archives?
Since the prohibition period, efforts have been made to work for sobriety with the help of posters. The dangers of liquor have traditionally been warned by a grim saying, with the devil lurking in the glass.
What was completely new about these posters from the 1950s and 1960s was the humor. Instead of a threatening tone and intimidation about ruination, there were bright colors and fun slogans.
These classics put us in a good mood, and we hope they bring a smile to your face as well! No matter what you pour in your glass.
In this poster chimney sweepers, who are supposed to balance on the roof, are urged to stay sober. A perfectly reasonable wish, right? Fortunately, a long time has passed since this poster was published. In today’s Finland, the chimney sweepers are respected professionals that keeps our countless summer cottages fireproof. And for that we are grateful!
The slogan shouts in Finnish: ”Sober and stable – Keeping you able”. It was used in the sobriety work in Finland during the 1950s.
