About the artwork

In the words of the artist:

My original plan for this poster was to show the best things from my neighbourhood Munkkiniemi in Helsinki. Before my eyes I saw an illustration of the old Cadet school at dusk or youngsters having a party at the beach. But one autumn day when I was walking around I just couldn’t take my mind of the trees. The well-trimmed trees are everywhere, bordering almost every street as well as the coast line. During the barren season you can see the branches making tangling patterns in enthralling formations. My poster pictures the alley of Munkkiniemi on an early November morning. The birds waiting for the tram are just extras. The trees are the real stars.

Surely travel posters can’t simply remain a cry from the past?

Absolutely not. We live in a completely visual world where the picture is stronger than ever. That’s why the following question hit us: How would contemporary artists depict Finland of today?

We could not let that thought go, so since 2016 we continuously arrange international travel poster contests and we’ve also asked specific graphic designers and artists to create new Finnish travel posters for us.

So now Finland once again attracts travellers with glamour and cries of joy from paradise.
With the help of the travel poster!
