Olavi Jalkanen

1918-1982

Olavi Jalkanen studied at the School of Industrial Arts from 1936 to 1937 and at the Free Art School from 1937 to 1938. His artistic debut took place in 1945. Jalkanen participated in the Young Artists’ Exhibition in 1945 and in the exhibition of the Union of Finnish Art Associations in 1958. Abroad, he took part in the Rauma Art Exhibition in Gävle in Sweden in 1947 and in the Pori Art Exhibition in Bremen and Bremerhaven in Germany in 1971.

Jalkanen worked as a teacher at a secondary school from 1964 to 1966 and, starting in 1966, at the Pori Commercial Institute and the Pori Art School. Jalkanen was known primarily as a portrait painter, but he was also a graphic artist who, among other things, created posters for Pori Day.
