Vesa-Matti Juutilainen

Vesa-Matti Juutilainen (b. 1983) is an illustrator and graphic designer from Finland on the verge of the physical middle age. He appreciates an original and identifiable style over technical mastery, and he seeks the same open-mindedness that can be found in children’s drawings. Vesa-Matti creates illustrations and graphic products primarily for Apple Watch applications, but also for magazines, companies and organizations.

Characteristics of Vesa-Matti’s work are cute, clumsy human and animal figures, distorted proportions and a schematically rigid composition. A naive way of presenting often makes the picture a little more fun. Vesa-Matti tries to surprise the viewer by presenting things in new perspectives and visually interesting. The style borrows from the past, but still strives to be rooted in the present.
