Sightseeing in Finland by Sofie Öhland
In the words of the artist:
My poster was made digitally and captures a group of reindeers who curiously observes a tent and it’s residents, who is unaware of the audience outside. I changed the usual perspective, so now you can see the Finnish nature from the animals point of view. They are probably as intrerested of us, as we are of them, and in this case we become the attraction.
I am very interested in the Finnish wildlife, and once when I was hiking, I woke up in the middle of the night and the ground was shaking. It turned out to be a moose running by. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see it, and I think the animals often do that – they appear when we least expect it. When you finally meet one of the citizens of the forest, it’s a meeting you’ll never forget
Surely travel posters can’t simply remain a cry from the past?
Absolutely not. We live in a completely visual world where the picture is stronger than ever. That’s why the following question hit us: How would contemporary artists depict Finland of today?
We could not let that thought go, so since 2016 we continuously arrange international travel poster contests and we’ve also asked specific graphic designers and artists to create new Finnish travel posters for us.
So now Finland once again attracts travellers with glamour and cries of joy from paradise. With the help of the travel poster!
